Well I'm hoping not to have to move the BB?

I am shifting apex cranks, mechs, brakes, cassette, chain from the pearson to the Planet X. It's also getting new flatbars, Shifters and brake levers.

The pearson is getting everything gears and brakes from the Planet X, including chain, cassette

Given both bikes are SRAM (albeit one 10 and one 11 speed) is there anything to do with the BB? This is the one bit I don't get as I always thought the BB was to do with the frame

The Pearson has a GXP BB, I'm not sure on the PX

What does this mean then? If not that. From the PX one

  • Long 8mm hex key with torque and screwdriver attachments

Mmm. Not sure tbh. Squinting at the photograph I can't see anything in the kit that looks like a torque wrench. At that price I'd be surprised if one was included. Might be worth checking with PX first.

Just looked, GXP on the PX too
Cranks should just swap over then. As you say no need to touch the BB.

I have used the Halfords kit as it was supplied by the college I did a 10 week bike maintenance course at. The tools within it tend to suit the cheaper, low end components. When I build up my own tools (bought specific tools as required) I found that many items in the Halfords kit would be useful on only one of the six bikes we have (that being a 10+ year old Urban 100)

That's a typo - it should read 'torx' which is a type of screw head, usually found on 6 bolt disc brakes on bikes.

You'd be looking at £40 upwards for a decent Torque Wrench. Cheaper ones just aren't worth messing about with

Good news on the BB

Thanks. I'll ask my brother to get a PX one

These kits are fine as a basic, but not high quality, but not low enough to cause real concerns)

Buy one, and as you find a tool (or tools) use justifies buying a higher quality version, then add to the kit.
