I've a Blackburn Air-Stik, don't know if it's "good" but it fits in my bag and inflates my tyres fine. Your tyres should have a max PSI rating on them, though you don't necessarily need to go that high (I think). MTB pumps probably won't inflate to a high enough pressure for you, so make sure you get something that will, also check it will work with your valves (though most will do schraeder and presta these days).

There should be a pressure rating on the side wall of the tyres somewhere. Typically around 110psi for road bike tyres.

One thing to bear in mind... 110psi is a long way to go with a small barrel short throw pump. Sure, you can do it once in a while (post punctures, etc) but for maintenance / top ups, you might be better off with a track / floor pump.

Although it flies in the face of weight weenie carbonistas, its probably also worth looking for a pump with a hose on it. I've not used this particular model before, but that hose will stop you from ripping your valve off whilst your technique improves.

I use a floor pump at home on all the bikes, and have a (not quite little enough) Wrench Force hand pump in my bag for the most part.

I have this one http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_208265_langId_-1_categoryId_165661 for on the road and a full track pump at home.I cant say anything much about it because i have not used it yet but i should really before the PUN***RE fairy visits. To me it looks similar setup to the road morph.

Another +1 for the road morph.

Before getting this I ripped through two or three valves with cheaper pumps.

I use a pocket rocket from Topeak on the bike. Punctures are actually pretty rare for me - every 4 months or so. I reckon I would rather carry a lightweight one and spend a few mins getting up to pressure than carry one of these larger ones. At home, I have a Spec track pump

Just got me a Topeak Pocker Rocket "MasterBlaster" for the road bike. Supposedly it inftaltes to 100 - 120 Psi without too much issue. Luckily I haven't really had to put it to the test yet

Can you confirm Gavin?

Erm, I think 100-120 psi will take you a little bit of time. I can certainly get to 70psi (checked when I get home) in a reasonable period of time and reckon that at this pressure it is pretty safe to ride on. To be honest, I get bored pumping and decide when it feels pretty hard, it is time to go.
