Going to Oxford this weekend, and may have time for a mooch. If so which bike shops are worth a visit. Ideally good quality stuff (partic clothes) rather than cheap rubbish, but you never know!

And indeed any running or triathlon shops.....

Not exactly Oxford but close, try Rides On Air in Wallingford. Nice place for a meal and mooch around the antiques shops.

Well been to Beeline. Not bad, but I was after some comfy bib shorts and they only had Spesh ones at £78 but they fitted weirdly - all OK except the bottom of the shorts was massively too loose.

Will see about Walton St next

I was after good quality bib shorts and happened upon BikeZone. Expensive pair from Endura but I know they are a quality brand and I am cycling back to Winchester tomorrow so wanted some now. I asked about popping in with my road bike later to use a track pump to which I got a "no problem". Then when I did the other bloke pretty rudely told me they don't lend out their pumps. I gave a him a public bit of grief about what his colleague had said, and that I had bought a £70 pair of shorts, and he then gave in. Rude sod

On a positive note we are staying in a fantastic hotel - the Old Bank - with great service and free bikes to borrow to pedal around town.

Thanks Bob, but no, I didn't> I am not sure they had one as I specifically asked about bib shorts and he said they had nothing apart from some (possibly Altura) that were at the cheaper end of the market, or wrong size

The Fs260 model I did get from BikeZOne are ideal and half the price of Assos and of the 12 reviews on ChainReaction 11 are maasively glowing and some say they are bette than Assos.

Typical!!,like most lbs shops they have staff who specialize, with beeline most are mtb guys. But on the whole they are the best shop in oxford and you get 10% discount for being a reg user

Yeah, Bike Zone aren't great IMHO, they've always been fairly rude and unhelpful.
Reg Taylor on the Iffley road however are great in my experience.

There's actually quite a few decent proper bikes shops in Oxford: on Cowley Road there's Beeline (which I use most), there's Warlands on Botley Road, Reg Taylor on Iffley Road, Walton Street Cycles in Jericho, Summertown Cycles in Summertown etc. There's also the bike shop in town next to the Covered Market, but I can't remember its name.

Just make sure you avoid "Cycle King" on Cowley Road, home of the "Bicycle-shaped Object"
