I have a Kaffenback which I use for commuting. It is not quite a cx bike but it can take 28c tyres with guards or 32 without. You would need to share the rear bosses for a rack but that is no biggy in my opinion.
The frame and fork are steel, it soaks up the bumps and personally I find it very comfortable.
