Our ten year old Bosch washing machine has just done it's last wash because the drum had dropped and isn't worth the repair.
Bearing in mind that we typically use it once a week, we're not too impressed even though washing machines are 'quoted' as having a typical lifespan of about ten years.
In the myriad of experience that members have of such devices, any recommendations for a brand / model to buy or steer clear of please - ?

Ours is a Siemens (a rebranded Bosch) and it’s been going for about 15 years, with some repairs, before that we had a 20 year old Miele which was reliable but very basic and bloody noisy.

our washing machine repair chap recons they’re all pretty crap these days

We use ours about 5-6 times a week so quite heavy usage. We are usually pleased to get 5 years out of a standard cheapo one.
Currently have a Hoover. It was cheap and I don’t expect too much from it.
All our other white goods go for ages. But washing machines seem to rattle themselves to death.

Cheaper Bosch are same level engineering as other brands I'm told. Meile are meant to be good.

I have cheap one and it's been fine. Only once a week wash though. We used to get through them in the family home.

Our Samsung has been going for a little over 10 years and never skipped a beat used three of four times a week at most. Still really quiet and just trundles along.

It did have an issue with draining which was solved by cleaning out the filter a couple of years ago and it took me a year to figure out how to silence the annoying chimes. Can't say I ever need to think about it to be honest.

I would say the Bosch , mine failed after 20 years, suddenly became incontinent, for hat ever reason ,it may have been a simple fix , but 20 yrs service is respectable.
But I 'm not minded to buy another Bosche, I mean it only lasted 20 yrs ... Once or twice a week, I deemed it uneconomic to repair

My wife has a thing for HotPoint
personally I always looked at Beko

but to be fair the HotPoint machine - of all types - that we have had have been pretty good!!

We had a few Beko units in our last house, two - dishwasher and washing machine - failed just outside of warranty and the landlord elected not to replace them hence us getting our own.

Just discovered that apparently Bosch washing machines are allergic to hard water, so being in Norfolk, looks like Bosch are now out of the running.
But Samsung appear to be worth a look.

Miele I’ve had two. First one bought s/h £50 13 yrs ago and son still using it.
Second I bought 8 yrs ago ( newer model) £150 s/h used 5 days a week and still perfect.
Looking back over the years with previous machines theyve Needed new bearings, new brushes, new pumps, If I was pushed I’d probably fork out for a new Miele if I really had to.

My wife would recommend Bosh (me, I'm more of a laundromat kind of a person) We recently replaced her old Bosh (purchased before we were married, so 20+ years) with another Bosch. We tried to repair the old one but the part needed was proving difficult to source.

Bosch every time for me. They often offer a 5 year warranty if you register online (did with a recently purchased dishwasher)

A brand that flies under the radar is Ebac. Manufacturer in the UK, excellent warranty and an excellent machine. We have one of their dehumidifiers, again, designed for the damp UK climate unlike the rebadged Chinese imports that are more suited for the European market.

We have a Samsung. It came with a 10 year warranty, and, we have now had it for 11 years. Fingers crossed, no problems. Before that, we typically had Hoover or Hotpoint, with a "lifespan" of 5-6 years.
