When we moved into our current flat we bought a Delta Michaelangelo Gravity Stand to store my fixie and my race bike. It has been great, but we have several other bikes and would like to get another one so the four most-used/loveliest are easily-accessible/on display. Unfortunately I can't find another one of those particular stands anywhere in the UK.

Has anyone got something similar? Needs to be fairly low-key, have independently-moving/adjustable arms (a couple of our bikes are compacts), go up against the wall with no fixing required and be pretty sturdy.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Here is something similar: My link (not as elegant though). Available from the US however - Jenson

I live in a tiny flat and finding space for bikes has always been hard.  My favorite stand after trying a few is the Minoura Closet Cyclist.  A different idea to your current stand, the bikes hang by the wheel, either bike is easy to remove, the stand is still stable with one bike.   Mine with two bikes takes up a floor area of 90 x 110 cm, there's room underneath for a track pump, toolbox and panniers, I often have a couple of spare tyres hanging next to the pole. Expensive at around £100, if I needed another I'd buy the same again.

I saw something just like what you already have in Aldi on the weekend... could be worth checking there if you have one near you

My suggestion would be to take your existing stand to a local steel fabrication, or Hydraulic installation company (look in yellow pages, etc.) Judging by that photo the stand is made from 3/4" OD X 16 gauge tubing, with the top bend on a 2.25" or 2.50" centre line radius(CLR) bend; both are standard radii for manual tube/pipe benders. The larger radii at the base would be formed in a roller ...... virtually all fabrication companies have this kind of gear. Hot forming the pig tails would also not cause any problems for such a company. You are looking at no more than 30 minutes work to hand make one of these. ERW mild steel would cost around £30 +VAT (painting extra) and in 316 stainless steel tubing it should cost about £40 + vat. If you go this route and cannot find suitable push in domed end caps for the tubing; send me a message and I'll pop you a couple in the post .... I have hundreds of them to suit 5/8", 3/4", 1", and 1 & 1/4" OD tubing.

You make me want to have a go at making one myself! Might well be worth doing this, thanks for the suggestion.
