Climbing up the hill, on the way home from an emergency-pint-of-milk run this morning, I had the weird experience of pedalling, but standing still. Ice/slush, and a very steep hill.

New-ish Panaracer Crosstown 700x38 rear tyre.

Tyres too hard? Try letting some air out!

I get it all the time. You get used to it after abit. On the fixed i get it more, i once went up a steep hill and every pedal stroke my back wheel slipped around. I tried everything to get grip, leaning back, trying not to jerk the power on, but i still got it.

I get it all the time, it's 'cause I put way too much power down............................... <awakes from dream>

Oil has the same effect. I had to go up a road in Birmingham in November and the whole road was covered in oil and damp from the previous night's rainfall. Cars were struggling more than me to get up it! What was worse was the set of lights at the top...

It's the major problem round here, both on the MTB and the road bike. Even in dry weather, there's a fine layer of soil from the fields washed onto the steep sunken roads and it's very difficult to get grip on the one in fours.
