Rear wheel spin / hub

Newbie question: I may just be being a bit paranoid - but when I spin my rear wheel by hand on my new road bike it doesn't seem to spin for as long as I would expect.

The rim is clear of the callipers and I can't hear it catching on anything. Is the hub just a bit tight or does it need to bed in perhaps? Only done about 30 miles on it so far. It's certainly not difficult to spin the wheel or to ride, but would like it to be as efficient as it can be.

My basis for what I would expect is my hybrid bike I have had for a couple of years, which seems to spin and spin.

Take the wheel out and turn the axle with your fingers. If it feels tight or rough then the bearings are over-tightened. If it feels nice and smooth (with no lateral movement) then it's fine.

Thank you. The axle feels stiff to turn so the bearings are probably overtightened. Should I adjust myself or wait until I get it checked over by LBS in about 3 weeks as I don't think I have the tools?

Ask your LBS to look at it now- running it overtightened may damage your bearings depending on how many miles you'll do between now and your bedding in service- 30 miles in they should happily give it a look over.
