R501 wheel set that has done maybe 8-10 thousand miles , only regreased the hub last week and saw that the cones had a little bit of wear .

Very loud clicking /clunking coming from the hub today on my ride so took it steady , i will regrease it again but i think i need to bite the bullet and replace it ?
Just ordered a new set from ribble for £60, ahh well thats my x mas money spent

At £60, I would (and do) just treat the R501s as a consumable - after all, that's about the price of a decent set of tyres, and I'd never get 10k miles out of tyres! I tend to wreck rims before the hubs, though.

Yep, just cleaned a pair of R501s and noticed that the wear indicator is almost invisible. Not sure of the exact mileage because I've used them on 2 different bikes but I wouldn't have thought they'd done more than 4,000 miles.

Well i stripped the bearings and they were dull and a few were rough , cones have a wear line and im not sure how the brake surface is so i have regreased the bearings and replaced what i could with used spares so they should last till the new pair arrives and i can then retire them as a set of back up wheels.
