So I took the rear wheel off my bike to patch a puncture, and now that the tire is back on and the wheel is screwed back on (it's a screw, not a quick release), there seems to be a bit of give in the wheel.

I can see it move ever so slight from side to side if I push/pull it, and it wasn't like that before. I've tightened the bolts either side as much as I can, so I'm not sure what the problem is. The middle of the wheel doesn't seem to move, but the rim does.

It's a single speed by the way, if that helps.

Help appreciated

Some cup and cone bolted wheels can unwind the cones if you over tighten them.

You have pushed the cones apart like a car jack.

Failing that if you are sure the hub is solid then maybe you need to re-tension the wheel as one or two loose spokes can lead to an entire wheel going pringle shaped, you will find some give in it though, it's a spoked wheel that flexes, not a solid cast iron wheel.

As Zoiders say it may be simply a case of natural flex.

As a general rule-

A Cone issue will usually allow a little bit of movement with not very much pressure on the rim but the rim won't move too far out of line.

With a flex issue the rim doesn't move under light pressure but will move a bit further under pressure than the first case.
