Rear wheel dead

Third spoke went today in 10 rides so I guess the wheel is shot (Shimano R501). Is it worth me buying a set of spokes and rebuilding the wheel (never done this before btw but was going to just change one spoke at a time and true it each time) or just bin it and buy a new rear wheel?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

LBS (good wheel-builder) to see if its repairable

what rims are they ?

I had this a few years ago, in the end i loosened all the spokes and had it retrued from scratch as i reckon it was not balanced properly in the 1st place so all it did was break another spoke at a unbalanced point after a new one was put in . Once it was done properly i did not have any problems.

Thanks guys...I might have a go with cyberknight's suggestion but worried that I don't have enough knowledge. Also, think it's always going to be in the back of my mind that the wheels are made of cheese! @cyberknight...you said that you 'had it retrued from scratch' did you do this yourself? If so, how difficult was it???

All i did was use a spoke key and loosen all the spokes enough so they were still connected but not tight enough to ride and take into my LBS and ask them to retrue it as i do not have a proper wheel trueing stand .I can do general trueing using brake blocks as a guide.

I have some 501s and used them for maybe 1000 miles last year and they were cracking set for the price, just upgraded to rd 11`s , the reviews of 501s generally say "solid " and last a long time so it sounds like it just needs some fettling but its hard to say without seeing them.
