It would work, but this is from a higher group for a lower price. Don't let the 9 speed specification bother you.

would there be any problems though using the 9 speed mech on the triban or does the limit screws just make it work like an 8 speed?

...and the fact that you need either a short or medium cage DR, but I don't know what the Triban 3 specs are.

Current Shimano 8 and 9 speed rear mechs have the same cable pull characteristics - you can even use Shimano 8 and 9 speed mtb mechs if you wish.

If I were you I would get the mid cage - it offers improved flexibility for wider gear range with minimal downside.

Is the mech itself broken or the hanger? Hanger sounds more likely. Each bike is different though, so if it is that you will need to go to Deckie

both look knackered, the hanger is snapped and the mech is bent, hopefully these images show up.

I was having a good ride up untill then, i was probably only 30mins ride from home and I was looking forward to the mile climb up to my house
