Rear Mech Replacment

Hi guys, not posted here for a while;

Was having a great ride on my triban 3 that i've had for a few years now and unfortunately I hit a pot hole and the rear mech snapped and I now need to replace it.

The triban 3 uses shimano st2300 so will this rear mech i'vefound on ebay work?

It would work, but this is from a higher group for a lower price. Don't let the 9 speed specification bother you.

would there be any problems though using the 9 speed mech on the triban or does the limit screws just make it work like an 8 speed?

Yep. Limit screws will sort that for you.

Current Shimano 8 and 9 speed rear mechs have the same cable pull characteristics - you can even use Shimano 8 and 9 speed mtb mechs if you wish.

If I were you I would get the mid cage - it offers improved flexibility for wider gear range with minimal downside.

I've bought the medium sized one as the triban is a tipple so the more room the better, thanks for the help

Is the mech itself broken or the hanger? Hanger sounds more likely. Each bike is different though, so if it is that you will need to go to Deckie

both look knackered, the hanger is snapped and the mech is bent, hopefully these images show up.

Forgive me I might be missing something here, but how did you break the rear mech exactly?
Any chance of a picture of the damaged part?

Very unlucky, must have been a big hole

The hanger looks ok unless I am mistaken.
