Rear light that mounts on the seat/saddle rails....

Four4ths make one, but not cheap (£85). Also the Moon Comet mounts on the saddle rails, but not sure whether it would be visible enough -depends where exactly the bag sits.

The Aldi lights on offer at present are Moon Comet copies at £8.99 and also have a rail mount

Having persisted with my idea of mounting a rear light between the seat and my Topeak Wedge bag I have finally sorted it out.

I bought a Topeak Redlite II from Halfords (good price plus extra 10% in a Flash Sale) and have made a bracket to fit it to the Wedge Bag mounting bracket. Works nicely and didn't take a lot of doing, just a couple of bits of Meccano!

Photos follow for those interested.......

This is the bag bracket, which clamps to the saddle rails, with the added bracket for the light.

And here it is fitted... This one on my partners Liv Avail.

And it lit up! Quite a bright light and IMHO good value at £6.29 (Halfords online price less 10%)

Good result - you are a more patient man than me.

I just bought a new Cateye today to replace one that parted company from my bike yesterday:

Clips on the saddle bag which is how I like it - won't be your cup of tea though!

Comes with batteries, the screw mount bracket and the clip on mount - the latter was a surprise as I had to buy it separately before.

Looks a really good solution, I went for the much more pricier stock option of fitting an Exposure Tracer with the optional saddle rail mount.

Thanks. I wanted to retain the Topeak wedge bag which has a saddle rail bracket in order that it can be clipped on and off. This meant that I couldn't use any saddle rail mounted light so had to come up with my own solution!

The Topeak Redlite II comes with a fitting to attach it a Topeak bag, and if you are not using the bag, it also has a seat post clamp. The only issue with a rear light that high and close to the saddle is they can be masked with a waterproof jacket etc.

I appreciate that the Redlite II comes with fittings to attach to the Topeak bag and the seat post. Problem with the first option is that, IMO, it does not sit very firmly on the bag and the second option is not a lot of use for my partners bike as there is insufficient seat post available when the bag is attached.

I understand what you are saying about the light potentially being masked by a waterproof jacket but we have sat on the bikes with our waterproofs on and the light is clearly visible.
