Good bodge. A bit of plastic pipe is lighter ! I've done similar in the past.

nice hack there. i'm lucky my saddle bag has a strip of fabric on the back for lights (I assume)
i clip a cateye wearable to it.
i also have a light on the seat stay tube with an adjustable bracket.
finally i have a light strapped to the back of my helmet

I feel it's a very bad idea to use a light that shows red to the front when you look behind.

Do you think the light has a 1° spread? That'd be unusual.

Fitting a light to a saddle bag doesn't strictly meet the lighting law requirements.

If you follow that logic then neither would attaching a light to its detachable strap, on the frame.
