folks

im having a wee problem getting the indexing on my rear derailler correct. i dont want to put it into the shop as i want to
learnhow to do this myself.

heres what im doing

chain is on the middle front ring ( its a triple), back small ring

ive undone the pinch bolt and turned the barrel adjusters clockwise on both the derailler and the shifter so the cable has the most amount of slack.

ive pulled the cable at the derailler reconnected the pinch bolt. ive then clicked the shifter to take the chain onto
the seconed sprocket at the rear and slowly turned the barrell adjuster anti clockwise untilthe chain jumps onto the second sprocket

fine!!!.. the chain moves up the gears fine, but coming back down the changes are very sluggish and at the last click it wont drop onto the smallest ring!!!!!

any idea what im doing wrong??????????????

thanks

what rear mech do you have ? and just because a cable is new don't discount that as being the cause of the problem, did it get a GT85ing to lube it up when you installed it.

Did you change just the cable or housing as well? As Too much friction between cable and housing Could cause sluggish shifts into smaller sprockets. Or the spring in the derailleur isn't strong enough to smoothly shift (although this is much more unlikely).

Hope this helps!

Mechs losing spring power is more common than you think, especially if they are more than a few years old and have been exposed to road salt.

I'm taking my Shimano RSX in tomorrow to be replaced as it really has had it, changed chain & cassette in hope it would hlep, I just think it's had it's day, far too much play in the pivot points & for the cost of a new one...

However you may have more luck & sora's not that old...
