At any given time there are over 9,700 planes in the air, carrying an estimated 1.2 million people.
Making the skies the 156 most populated place.
That's only counting commercial airliners, of course.

You could could probably double, or even triple, that number (of planes, not occupants) if you include private, military and other non-airline planes.

Making "the skies" the 156 most populated place.

Or does it make them the *2nd most populated place behind "the land"

* assuming we are talking populated by humans, as the oceans & seas win big on numbers of living things

I suspect there are more humans at sea than in the air.

One of my local pubs has been converted into a mosque. They've left the Mitchells & Butlers brewery logo over one of the doors.

Walter Hunt was an American inventor best known for creating the safety pin in 1849. He designed it as a way to quickly pay off a $15 debt. The pin was made from a single piece of wire, coiled in the middle to act as a spring, with a clasp to protect the user from being pricked. Hunt patented the design but sold the rights for $400, missing out on the significant profits that followed.

In a bizarre incident in 2019, a Taiwanese man named Ben Hsu accidentally swallowed an Apple AirPod while sleeping. Upon waking and unable to find the device, he used his iPhone's tracking feature, only to hear it beeping from inside his stomach.
Medics at Kaohsiung Municipal Hospital confirmed the AirPod's location via X-ray and prescribed a laxative. Remarkably, the device passed through Hsu's digestive system naturally, and he retrieved it the next day.
