The first use of distortion on a guitar came about accidentally when Marty Robbins was recording the song "Don't worry". A transistor blew on the Bass player's Amp and created a fuzz/overdrive sound. They liked it so much that they kept it on the track, which you can hear at 1:25 into the track.

If you look at the sun right now, you are technically looking back in time. It takes eight minutes for light from the sun to reach Earth.

That’s the same with everything you look at as it takes the time for the photons to reach your eyes. The distance of the sun makes it roughly 8 minutes. The distance from the other side of the room will be nano seconds but the principal is the same.

No - but reading some posts on here it can feel that way ...

What do you mean 'no'? Everything you see is the result of the photons travelling from the source to your eye at the speed of light. The time it takes therefore depends on the distance but it is always >0 as it is a apart so everything is looking back in time.

Do you know the Feynman quote about the beauty of our stars?

I’m feeling somewhat unenlightened.

That can be fixed by reading his books ("Surely you're joking Mr Feynman" is one title, from memory - I read them about 30 years ago). I doubt you will regret it!

And for a lesser bit of enlightenment: my comment denying the science was just for comic effect. I know one shouldn't joke about important issues like the speed of light, but I'm only human ...

Apparently when Jethro Tull's daughter learned the flute with a tutor, he realised that he'd been playing his flute incorrectly all those years - !
But who cares, still a brilliant musician - ! :okay:
