I just bought a 3-pack of cheapo Aldi specs for under £3. At that price I don't really care if I only get a few months out of each pair!

this is very much my tactic, bargain store does them for £1.50 a pair get 10 pair at a time - they will of all been lost or broken in a few months, I have no idea where they go

Have you considered the tactical look?

for very delicate work I sometimes have to mount some +3.50 on top of my +2.00
what are the ones in the picture ? +75.00 in a few years time i will need a pair (not just the one)

I use reading glasses.

I buy half a dozen pairs at once from Poundstretcher or similar, for usually £1.50 or £2.00 per pair. At that price it really doesn't matter much if they get broken or lost.

Then I keep a pair by my home deak, a pair by my main sitting chair, a pair by my beedside, a pair in the office, a pair in the car, and a pair in my man-bag.

That way, wherever I am, there is usually a pair handy.

+1 for those cheap charlie shops over there like Poundland.

Don't think I'll bother with the Patrick Moore look

I think a lorgnette would be the solution to your problems. Something like this

Edit. I missed the post where you said that you only have sight in one eye. Monocle makes more sense if it's comfortable and effective.

I bought some readers from Lidl to use when I'm wearing contact lenses.... +2.5 Dioptres and they have multiple hinges ie above the nose piece, the usual one each side where the front of each arm joins the frame, and also each arm has a hinge halfway. As you may have guessed they fold into a very small case (about 40mm x30mmx30mm) so are ideal to carry on the bike for reading the menus in the cafe's.
