Given the faff (great word!) experienced thus far, I would gladly go back to external cables. But, alia iacta est, as they say—which translates: “I already own the friggin’ thing”.Wot - ? Surely the expense and faff is well worth the miniscule gain in aerodynamics - ?

I tried the vac trick (as elucidated in a GCN video) and it didn't work—too much air volume inside the top tube to get sufficient pull. What did work is the dodge I outlined here: https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/internal-cable-routing-kits.279526/post-6610515
If memory serves, a 'special installation kit' can be had which appears to consist of magnets; one for the cable end and one you drag along outside the appropriate tube.
