I think I'm sold, though as I'm not buying new tyres immediately I still have time to change my mind. Comme toujours...

I'm also wondering how big a tart I'd look with light blue PR3s on my white fixed Flyer.

You're right MM, there's a lot of buzz wordy jargon used in describing tyres. I haven't a clue what it means half the time either. "Rolls well" gets me too. You'd kind of expect that of a tyre wouldn't you? Unless it was square, in which case it wouldn't f*cking roll at all. And don't get me started on feedback!

How do people know they're talking about the same thing? If someone describes their tyres as supple, how does someone else know what the means, what that relates to? Changing them? Poor puncture resistance? Doing the sodding dishes?!

Sheesh, I dunno.

Major I have to disgree - in my opinion there is a difference ie i ride these

Vittoria Zaffiro's

But did ride these...

Michelin Oriums

Orium.jpg

The Michelins where a better tyre in the wet !

WHY:

Because the Vittoria has a smooth central section section and you can feel the 'slippyness' whereas the Michelin where better for 'wet times' but they where softer in compound !

I'd go back to the Michelin Oriums, easily - no doubts.

In other words the Vittorias are skittish/unnerving and the Michelins - a bit more grippy !

Hang on, what are you disagreeing with?;) Or are you saying that expensive tyres aren't justified, given that the two you've named are both fairly cheap?

What difference does it make - I used to ride, for those that remember them, Michelin Pro 19's: a true pro tyre -it was all in the apllication of them on the rim- regularly priced too (15-20 quid) but shoot hot fast !

At the end of the day Major its in the rubber compound !

I would easily defend the arguement that a cheap tyre can and Ive demonstrated on a chain-gang that they can perform.

When PR3's came out they where quite expensive still you can get 2X for 46' notes..

But I ride these on the race wheels:

The fact is, I don't know, which is why I started this thread in the first place. From specs the Rubino has half the thread count and is 50% heavier but of course I don't really know how important that is. Is that not the kind of difference you can feel?
