Both were known as Weinmann model 999 - it just came in two different lengths (which was marked on the brake). Usually you find that the longer ones are required if you put 700c wheels on a vintage frame - clearances used to be massive - but, on the 1980s frames made for 27" wheels, you can be luckier as frames were getting tighter. The last 80s frame I bought has the 610 version and will reach 700c without buying new brakes. This is just as well, because long-reach DP brakes look a bit naff on a vintage frame and Gran Compe 700 centre-pulls are £50 per wheel!
