Rain and general wetness etc this spring/summer so far

I was looking at the News this morning and there was already an article about the CRT having to sort out the water supply to a canal

It reminded me that I noticed, on my normal ride, that the nature reserve has a nice dry path pretty much all the way through
when normally there are large patches that are pretty much flooded - even in the middle of summer!

but this year there is only one patch even with puddles - the main wet section was totally dry
which I have not seen since starting riding that section many years ago - except when the papers are full of alarmist headlines about water shortages and rationing

and the route along the canal was also totally dry - there are normally some puddle - but not a one this year

so - finally getting to the point - how is it elsewhere??
anyone noticed any rivers very low?
wet section of paths that are dry?
canals looking a bit dodgy?

or is it just round here?

Stafford area dry as a bone generally. There are the usual tiny areas that buck the trend and strangely remain wet (how does that work?) but overall perfect riding conditions resulting in a clean bike at the end of the ride.

In Plymouth, we've had the driest March on record apprently. Went for a walk yesterday, ground was very dry. I've not seen a single puddle anywhere. Local news (AFAIK) has not reported on reservoir levels so I'm not sure. But anecdotally it's very dry. We had some rain last week which was only enough to wet the ground, then it stopped.

Dry everywhere I think, Met Office says April showers coming later this month.

But how cold is it in the morning :cold:. Clear skies are great for daytime sun this time of year but I've had frost last 3 days as its been that cold overnight.

Yes March was very dry across most of the UK, vs average:

I was saying y'day the weather reminds me of 2020 - lockdown year when we had a very dry ad bright spring

Still plenty of water in the water butts in our garden. The cold weather and time of year means that the garden hasn't been gasping for watering.

And, of course, water butts aren't getting used for bike cleaning at the moment.

My waterbutt is nearly empty. We've had no rain for 5 weeks now. The garden has gone from very wet, almost a swamp to bone dry on the top. All my pots with plants in are having to be watered as the sunny weather of the last couple of weeks is drying everything out.

Dry here. I think without some rain I think we should cut Manchester off and keep the water for ourselves.

Cumbria BTW and nothing against mancunians

It's been dry and 15C+ for at least 2.5 weeks in Southampton/Longleat, hence I've actually ridden outside!

The largely dry spell almost certainly goes back further in Southampton, but I'm a big wuss now when it comes to cooler days, my lungs are so much more sensitive to approx <10C than they were pre- Oct '22.

Think we've had local wildfires hitting the Echo headlines a few times in recent weeks around Totton and New Forest, maybe IOW too. Think I read they've been bad in Wales, mainly in the south.

Even the Costa Clyde has been relatively dry in March and April (so far).
I am just hoping it is not going to be a repeat of last year, when we got a couple of nice weeks in spring. Then it started to rain, and forgot to stop.

Dry in Norfolk as well. The only downside is a cold, brisk E / NE wind which is rather offputting if you're heading in that direction.
