Radar Ride Sportive in Scotland

Oh dear, maybe I should leave the radar ride for a few years yet then!

Yes I agree about the differences in fitness of some riders. At the weekend, I was cruising along the side of Loch Carron. Slightly up and down, a little windy, and I was holding my speed between 18mph to 23mph. I was quite happy with this. Then I hear a shout behind me. I look around and see about 5 riders zooming towards me and past me (saying hello as they did). They must have been close to 30mph I reckon.

However, in the last year I know I have come on leaps and bounds, and I am so much fitter than I was before. That's what amazes me about cycling. You really can gain fitness quickly, but there will always be someone who makes you look slow!

I have a new found respect for professional cyclists!!

What a tremendous achievement

Riding all the way too - CHAPEAU, Sir

You'll be just about ready for the next CC Scotland Forum ride, then ?

I did the Radar Ride as well. It was hard, in fact one of the, if not the hardest day I've had on the bike. Still, in a perverse kind of way it was quite enjoyable and the sense of acheivement was great. Having done the climb up to the radar station 3 or 4 times before I thought I knew what to expect but hitting that climb after neraly 100 miles was something else. Don't know my official time but my bike computer gave a ride time of 7 hours 21 minutes

I think we have some mountain goats to compete with those up Ben Vrackie  (they will also mug you for your piece )

Well done seamab and arranandy! makes me wish I'd done it now but I decided I didn't want to aggravate some niggling problems I have in the legs; hopefully I'm fit next year.

Agreed, I averaged 19.1mph for the Etape Caledonia which I thought was not too bad, at one point I was doing around 23-25mph when a couple of riders shot past, they must have being close to the 30. Afterwards, I heard that the winner and his team mate started late, after me I wonder if it was them ;)
