If you look at John the Monkey's threads, he has made an effort to state what the thread is about in the title: [Doping]/[Lance]/[UK racing].

How about enforcing this convention on all racing threads, or don't you want to see the hover text either?

Personally, I am not really sure it's necessary. Often doping issues are related to specific races and to siphon the doping discussion off takes it out of its context a bit. If you reckon that talk about doping is actively getting in the way of talk about racing or that it becomes pointlessly repetitive and dull - which I suppose it does to an extent in the case of Lance Armstrong - then I suggest taking it up with specific posters. Failing that, I would just scroll down past any posts which you don't like.

I can see your point, but if you have looked at the Cycling News forums, this place is positively disinterested in doping.

Although to undermine my own point, I have just noticed that Cycling News has set up a separate doping forum!

OK, seems the vote is going to go in favour of one forum so far, so fair enough. Perhaps we could stick with JTM's convention then of clearly labelling racing issues. As for the threads, I will take it up with individual posters as and when it comes up.

They have a dedicated Lance thread too - every thread about him gets merged.

Not sure I can handle that.

i don't agree. it looks scruffy. and does nothing to shape the way a thread goes.

its a bit like hoping a thread somone starts stays on topic. much better to have threads evolve into the discussion they were meant to. JTM's tags, because thats what they are, are just a vain attempt to control the direction of his threads.

This whole forum is pretty loose, discussion occurs wherever it happens. the alternative is acf....

Not by me, they're not.

Racing is quite a big topic, covering everything from participation ourselves up to races at national and pro-tour level - the headings I use are an attempt at providing clarity on the page. I do the same thing in the reviews section, for the same reason.

I don't have a problem with it but then I don't have a problem with the doping/LA comments either. For me, it's all a part of the big mix... the Belgian mix perhaps? Sorry... couldn't resist

I think it's fine - my advice would be to go with the majority view in the poll and ignore Steve or Crackle (sorry, guys!). I have no problem with your titling your threads however you want to make it clear what you are interested in. That's what a thread title is for. Your way of doing it allows people who don't want to be involved in discussions about [x...] to avoid them. I, however, happen to think they are both relevant and interesting. Keep it up!

No problem with people not wanting the same. I agree about JTM's threads. As I said elsewhere, it's sometimes limited what I can contribute and I'm not always in the mood to read them, particularly during the Tour, which is what triggered my thread.

It's an odd thing. I know what's going on in the sport but I get so caught up in plot, sub-plot and racing during it, I really don't want to look behind the stage. As I also said, if something develops as part of the race fair do's but otherwise when I'm watching the racing I'm not thinking about who's on what. This is probably because I've only ever really followed the Tour, I care far less about other races, though more now than I did but it's the one that got me interested in racing when it first came on Channel 4 and the whole intrigue and tactics caught me up.
