Race Radio ban

Now now SJ, the safety issue is an important one, how would anyone know if someone got hurt with only about 200 vehicles behind them, the commisar, 40 motorbikes, a couple of helicopters, a battery of cameras, a few thousand spectators and a few team mates...........no, it's a lonely place out there.

I'd vote no on the probability that it would make Cav win less!

Never experienced proper radio-less racing like you old todgers so I guess I don't miss it

Unlike Montage, I am not a youngster but have only followed pro racing relatively recently and so do not know what pre radio racing was like but it seems to me that it would make races far more interesting for us fans and therefore am in total favour of an outright ban.

Would it not be possible with modern technology for DS's to communicate using tiny devices? This would lead to suspicion, accusations, denials, and eventually possible/probable cheating. Oh no, surely not, not in a professional peloton!!!

I was wondering about that too! It could be pretty hard to find devices if they were well concealed.

I think it could be interesting, but won't we just see the riders going back to the car to get instructions.

What, at local or major race level? Don't see many at the local 2/3/4 do we?
Anyway, how it is now is NO radios in UK domestic races. There don't seem to be more attacks, just the usual pointless expending of effort by those who can't read races without someone telling them what to do.
The old system where a senior rider in a team (not necessarily the protected one) acts as captian and calls the shots, will probably come back. Good. Thinking riders and teams win, rather than semi-robots operated by DS's from TV pictures.

Veers off topic...

The gnarly bits hanging off old codgers? ;)

What I was thinking. A quick Google suggests that increasingly old todger is in current use, meaning the same as old codger.

My response only shows what an old todger I am.

Well an old codger would have an old todger. Unless there's been a transplant?? Something to make the eyes water!

Banning race radio s will not help smaller teams, it would put them at even more of a disadvantage. Big budget teams would just put out more support on routes to give info. and instructions. At the moment its a level playing field as regards the radios. Removing them would make the need for even more regs. in the future a la F1, is that the way you want the sport to go.
