Quick release wheel question?

The OP has likely damaged the springs by having them in the wrong way round. Removed they should look like (little) frustum.

Bine and replace them.

It turned out they weren't the wrong way round but they have been damaged for whatever reason. As she's at the LBS getting a bit of a repair, I asked the guy to replace them for me whilst she's in.
