Question about disc brakes

Just a quick question. On my bike to install the discs I need to buy new wheels, and as I'm on a budget I'm wondering if only installing one disc brake would 'work'. If it would, I'm guessing it'd be best to have it on the rear wheel?

If anybody has any recommendations for cheap wheels which can take discs would be appreciated.

Firstly, do the frame & forks have disc brake mounts?

Planet-x/On-One have cheap disc wheels for about £150

As far as my untrained eye can see yes the frame does have the mounts.

Better to fit one to the front. That's the one that does the real work in extremis.

You don't say what size wheel you are looking for, but if you are looking for a 700c they can be had to find, I just bought rims and hubs, then had them hand built for me...

My son has a Barracuda Jacabat dirt bike here which has disc brake on the front and v-brake on the back.

Seems to work fine.

You definitely want the more powerful brake on the front.
