Thanks to everyone for info, advice & offers.
Got a second-hand TA crank from eBay, which fitted perfectly. Paired with a MKS EZY removable pedal, all is good.
l‘m still puzzled by the ISO vs. JIS mis-fitting, which seems to be the wrong way round, but shall stop worrying about it. Better to go cycling.
The old pedal and crank are still stuck fast alas. Maybe treatment with penetrating oil will eventually help.
