I keep looking at Stans Notubes, how did you do the conversion, any special kit barring the Stans, or similar, stuff?

New rims, got some ZTR Flow rims, poured some Stans into the tyres, fitted the tyre, added 28psi of air with floor pump (no C02) and off we go.

I was impressed I could fit the tyres dry, no need to lube the rim or tyre and that I can run with less than 30psi while still being a fat bastard (16st).

And the ironic thing is you can use an old inner tube to make your own tubeless kit. You cut in in half lengthways and use it as a rim liner, sealing the spoke holes. You can then add valve and tyre, squirt in a bit of stans and pump for Britain until it seals. Google ghetto tubeless or DIY tubeless.

My Superleggera wheels don't have spoke holes, so I''m toying with the idea of having a go myself.

I bin them.

OK, I understand it is not environmentally friendly (can you recycle them anywhere?). But I think in the wider picture, a used motorcycle tyre has probably at least 100 times more rubber on it than a small 700/23 inner tube, heaven knows how much more rubber a rear tractor tyre has! Also look in any kwik fit and you'll see at least five cars having old tyres being thrown onto a heap. So I feel less guilty.

More money than sense, whatever you call it. I don't drink, I don't smoke so an innertube or a pint? I'll have an innertube please!

I do carry some adhesive patches in my saddlebag strictly for emergencies when my 2 spare tubes are not enough! So my choice of chucking rather than repairing isn't due to the fact I can't repair them because I can!

No, I'd seen a bunch of folks try ghetto tubeless and all I could see was faff and failure. I waited until I needed to get some new rims and got some UST rims to match some UST tyres. They fit, they work and there's no faff.

I tend to patch them on the road. Sometimes it is not possible to find the puncture in which case I fit a new one having looked for the cause of the leak. I don't like to throw stuff away if it can be fixed.

It seems to me that we get stuff very cheap at the moment from t'other side of the world and don't appreciate our good fortune!
