Quick one - I've never actually used rubber cement or ever seen it - is pucture repair glue basically the same as rubber cement?

Reason I ask, is over the weekend will try a sidewall repair, using what seems to be the most solid method I can find online - using some dental floss to pull the split together, an automobile patch to back it with, and rubber cement to glue it on and coat the stitches on the outside of the tyre. I was just going to use the regular glue out my patch kit.

Jeees... just throw the damned thing away and buy a new one.

Not sure I'd want to risk my neck on a bike with a split tyrewall, no matter how well it had been "darned" with dental floss.

Completely agree, ditch the tyre. This is your safety you are talking about. New tyre, you wouldn't be legally allowed do this with even a small moto so why with a velo which could be dropping down slopes at 50 kph plus?

Is it really worth it? I wouldn't skimp on something that important. Anyway, by now you might get there's a general undercurrent offering the same advice.....

Ditch it!

Okay okay! Thanks all, I guess I bin the tyre. I'm just trying to make do and mend a bit atm as things are a little tight. I'll post a link to the article (one of a few) suggesting this is a solid repair tomorrow (in pub at mo).

Tbh the tyre in question - schwalbe kojak - has a few almost slits in it and hasn't done that many miles. The sidewalls seem a little fragile on it.
