So BC, what exactly is the problem? It looks a good tyre for the road. The blurb on it says that there is good puncture protection, but many tyre manufacturers say that. What type of riding do you mainly do?

Only ride on road, inflated to 120 psi ,constant pinch punctures slightest uneven surface, , still wondering if the 17st is a contributing factor.

Isn't a pinch puncture caused by incorrect fitting of the tube? I think rider weight will always be a factor, but you shouldn't have that many problems. Up until the other week I'd had one puncture in six months (rode over a broken bottle) and I'm 16 stone.

You are a bit of a big lad BC, so it could be a factor. I am guessing that you have 23mm tyres? So with the extra bit of weight you are carrying that may exasibate the problem, but you shouldn't really get pinch flats unless you go down potholes, or bash up curbs. The Schwalbes are not cheap are they, maybe try the next size up, ie 25mm. I run these tyres on two of my bikes with few problems.

Ultremo's are certainly a race tyre, but shouldnt really be giving you as many problems puncture wise.

I would ensure that you are correctly refitting tyre/innertube after a puncture. Also have a look at rim tape to make sure its in place. And finally try a slightly reduced pressure maybe around 100-110.

Hiya BC instead of going up from 23's to 25's why dont you try coming down from 17 to 16 stone

Then you'll be the same weight as me

I've sent my Schwalbe Ultremo's back after my tyre fail, the nice kind man there is replacing them free of charge but I did run 600 miles on them without a single puncture at max pressure, it was only when the weather got damp that I suffered my first one then another then another

I found them to be a good tyre and will certainly be putting them back on in the summer, I bought myself a pair of Michelin Krylion Carbon tyres for now which I done 65 miles on Sunday club run with no probs and have bought some Gatorskins for when it gets really wet

By the way i've reduced the pressures i use now as someone suggested I may be running too high, I went with 110psi rear and 100psi front and it was a nicer ride, all I have to do now is deflate my missus slightly

Punctures probability increases in the dark and especially wet weather.

Krylions run really nicely at the pressures Michelin recommend - I'm very pleased with mine (having just changed to them from my much loved, but knackered Pro Race 2 25mm).

My experience of Gators is that they're nastily slippy in the wet, fwiw - not everyone agrees, so I may just have had a bad set, but take it easy on them at first, would be my advice.

John the Monkey, thanx for the heads up on the Gators, i'll remember that when I throw them on mate and the Krylions do seem a decent tyre even tho i've only had the one 65 miler on em.

BC, no all the punctures were either thorns or glass in damp weather but as a previous poster noted all the debris usually gets washed about in the wet more than in the dry so it just lies in wait for us as we cycle along merrily

Do you get out on your own or are you in a club, i've recently joined Liverpool Mercury based at Litherland Sports Park and would recommend to anyone local. Membership is £20 a year and a great bunch of lads and the odd girl. 2 groups leave every sunday at 9am, a faster group and a more leisurely group who tend to put more mileage in with a cafe stop etc around the quiet lanes of West Lancashire and new prospective members are more than welcome to test the water. I joined as my 4 or 5 mates who are roadies have become fair weather riders of late and I was looking for something a bit more than riding out on my lonesome
