Puncture - need new tyre ?

Just had a small piece of glass go through my rear Marathon Plus causing a puncture. After removing glass and repairing tube I couldn't find any hint of a hole. Should I replace the tyre or is that a bit heavy-handed.

It's when the hole in the tyre is so big, inner tube starts bulging out.

BUMP to old thread.

I had a puncture last night and have found a small hole in the tyre. I suppose it was only a matter of time given the gashes accrued so far this winter, but I wanted to ask if it was worth trying to patch it with an old inner tube on the inside of the tyre and glue the hole. I'll put a new tyre on but don't really want to throw the other one.

Thoughts please.

If you need to patch it then bin it IMO. Patching is OK in an emergency to get you home, but if you are replacing it anyway I'd wager you'll never actually use the old one again, even if you patch it up.

New tyre, no question - I had a flat today - found a large nick in the tyre case so stuck a patch on the inside, new tube and rode home gingerly - replacement tyre fitted.

[I did salvage about 6" of the dud tyre with the wire cut off to make a tyre-boot to keep with the spare tube on this bike ... my No 1 tourer has tyre-boot in the bag too]
