Well i had an extraction yesterday .

What a laugh ,the tooth has been filled before .Somehow i managed to crack/split it in two places .

Offered a Crown £198-50 .Sorry tight Yorkshireman here ,pull it out .Well it went like this .Gums deadened no prob .

First pull tooth crumbled the filling started to shatter i was spitting bits out into the dish .

My head was being rocked backwards and forwards i helped by by forcing my head back into the head rest .He changed plyers twice .The roots would not come out .I started to laugh ,we stopped the procedure i was going to offer him a tyre lever .

He was huffing and puffing .I was in no pain at all .He finally admitted defeat and sought out a senior dentist .

He then used me like a training example .Which i was quite happy with .It was facinating listening to how and why to move certain things inside the cavity .He then got the roots out .No pain and this morning no pain just a bit sore .

So any of you who hate Dentists don't they are very good .

Love my dentist. A gorgeous young Indian lady. Always a pleasure to open my gob for her....

doesn't sound like the first one was much good - sounds like he was still in training - dentists can do serious damage if they don't know what they're doing - sounds like you were lucky - anyway; dry sockets usually develop after 3-4 days so you're not out of the woods quite yet!

This is making me feel sick! I hate dentistry...   xx(

I escorted my ex to her dentist a while back for an extraction. She was fairly upbeat going in and not too bothered about it. I was expecting her to be out in about 15-20 minutes but 30 minutes later there was no sign of her. About 10 minutes later she emerged looking green and very fragile. She paid the bill and I led her outside where her legs buckled so I caught her, walked her to a bench seat and propped her up.

It was a while before she was able to tell me what had happened. It turned out that the dentist was only a small woman and had struggled to get the rotten tooth out. She really didn't have the technique and/or physical strength to do it. After battlling for 25 minutes, she said she was going to give up and my ex would have to get someone else to do it! That didn't go down too well...

The dentist struggled on for another 15 minutes and finally got the tooth out. It was a monster - it looked like it had come out of a huge dog, not a person! I'm sure that some damage was done to the jaw because my ex was in pain for over a week after that.

Thanks for that! As someone who doesn't like dentiusts but probably needs a tooth removed, that has made me much better.

Had a rear one out last week - bit of digging around the gum to soften it up and then a couple of twists and it was out. Didn't feel a thing and it was over within 5 minutes.

I'm just starting to get wisdom teeth coming through - kinda painful. I'm thinking that they will have to be removed as there just doesn't seem room in the jaw for them :s

Pass the brandy vodka and some pliers

With most people it's not so much the lack of room, it's because they don't come right through so they don't get any pressure or cleaning, then they tend to rot. Leave them in and you can lose the adjoining teeth quite quickly.

Healthy teeth are held in very firmly. After getting one out with pliers and both feet off the floor, the dental hospital decided to do my other three under a general anaesthetic. They can use even more force, but you don't complain!

I actually have one broken tooth and two from which fillings have fallen out so it isn't making me feel good either!
Oh crap - my broken tooth has now gone bad and I have toothache - I'm going to have to get it sorted out!

Some dentists now offer oral sedation for total wimps nervous patients like me. Has anybody tried it? How effective was it?

I didn't go to the dentist for around thirty years and never had any problems apart from two fillings disintegrating along with the teeth they were in.

A couple of years ago I picked up the courage aided with nagging from the wife and made an appointment. I was informed that I had good teeth but the two teeth. or what was left of them, that had been filled when I was a kid needed extracting.

Subsequent six monthly visits have required no treatment bar cleaning/polishing. My dentist now no longer sends me reminders to attend as me thinks he cannot make any money from me, unless of course he starts drilling and filling like his predecessor thirty years ago.

I hadn't been to see a dentist for 20 years after a bad experience with a front tooth that was knocked out while playing football (sorted by the most lovely of female student dentists @ Guy's Hospital-wonder where she is now?) Years later, after getting a bit of pain, I enrolled at my local practice after a talking-to on regular check-ups and the 'I shouldn't really take you on after all this neglect' lecture-I knew all along he would have me on his books as there was a mouthful of repairs to be done (ker-ching!)
I now go regularly but every other visit seems to throw up a problem that was nowhere on the horizon before. This last appointment saw a bit of cleaning, advice on my gum condition and then the words 'Upper 6, Lower 8, Upper 4, Lower 2.......' or words to that effect, that seem to indicate to me an expensive next date with Doctor Javad. Deep joy.

If you've got some cash in your pocket I'd seek out a 'recommended' specialist for the extraction.

It will cost about £200 but you could avoid years of suffering and pain caused by some clown dentist damaging your jaw, nerves and adjacent teeth. Nerve damage (especially with lower back teeth) can be very serious, very very painful and permanent!!!

Google 'suicide disease'

it's pain so bad from damged nerves in the area of lower teeth that people usually have to kill themsleves, although these days a daily dose of morphine for the rest of your life 'might' prevent suicide - still, not worth the risk I'd say!

I have a very rigorous cleaning routine and teeth that are in pretty good nick. Years ago when I lived in France I had to go to the dentist for some reason and after the session he announced that I was going to be seen by the hygienist. French people generally have bad teeth cleaning habits and I expect the hygienist was expecting a nice little earner so it was quite gratifying when she poked around inside my mouth then admitted that there was nothing she could do for me. Ha ha.

Similar story, I had an upper back tooth pulled before Xmas. only pain was the injection and its healed up nicely.

It has left me with slightly slurred speach which I had hoped would have gone away by now.Anyone else had this problem?
