Hello Everyone.

As entitled, I own a Peugeot PH501 Chromaloy steel frame bike with a what I believe to be original aluminum seat post. I believe it probably hasn't been moved in years as it's wedged in there stiff! I've tried sticking WD40 down the groves to try with it, I've taken bruit force to it and tried tapping down to try dislodge it but still no luck..

Any idea's how I can shift it without damaging the frame.. it's the original paint and I don't really want to spoil it.

many thanks in advance

Given that it's a Pug, I would try everything in my power to remove it without damage first as these are odd sized like 24.8mm or something.

You could try Coke or if you can, put the bike in a freezer for a few days (the alloy shoudl shrink faster than the steel).

This is really helfpul.. the greatest bit I take pleasure in is we get dry ice at work... Alloy post in steel frame... I know what I'm doing tomorrow lunch at work :P haha

Thanks everyone for the answers I will keep everyone updated as to how it goes.. if not I might have to raid the cupboards at work for some Sodium hydroxide!

Penetrating oil won't make the slightest difference; the tiny gap between post and tube has been clogged solid with aluminium oxide, which occupies more space than the metal. Put the post in a big vice and twist the frame around it.

use plusgas much better than other fluids
May be an option in the worst case senario but from a quick search to find the product the description says it unsticks all metals from anything including paint (which worries me about my original paint surface).

I'm still yet to find the time to collar a bag of dry Ice and give that a go.. plenty of it to go around at work just time to do so seems limited as we're busy busy busy coming up to a whole new computer system **eeeeek**
