The phone numbers are sent out on mass, hoping for a hit, at this time of year it’s statistically more likely due to Black Friday and Xmas purchases, that someone will bite, they’re utter scum, the lot of ‘em

In my experience, Evri's little help.

If you really want to infer something completely differen t to what was obviously meant, then it is just about possible to twist it enough to think he might have been saying something very obviously stupid.

But you really do have to work hard to infer that meaning.

To be fair to @Ming the Merciless, he was reeling in a big fish, and landed it.

@Ming the Merciless, The last sentence started as a new paragraph, thus indicating a change in topic. The final sentence also ended with “so I knew it was a fake” which very much implies I was talking about the genuine Evri and my own control process.

At no point did I suggest I and/or anyone enters their details on the fake website.

A lot of online retailers, also use API interfaces to transmit front end data capture to the warehouse/shop where they deliver from.

If the retailer, company, individual etc did not pass the information onto the courier, I would expect as a minimum to receive a tracking number, if it is recorded or tracked delivery (most things are) and this is an alternative means or even a third way of monitoring for potential smishing, phishing, scamming, quashing and/or any other term for comprising and or securing data you wish to use.

Yes. Apparently they failed twice to deliver a parcel to me. Except that I haven't ordered anything ......
I am having the opposite experience... I have ordered something and Evri succeeded in delivering it to my local drop-off point today. (They sent a photograph to prove it.) They want to be really sure though so they just emailed to say that they will be (re-)delivering it this afternoon!!

Full marks to a presumably small, friendly community PO. 10/10.
Indeed I was going to post the same: here in the big city they would have sent the parcel back to the sender without a second thought.

Occasionally have this with alleged Royal Mail deliveries.
As long as you're on the ball with what you're expecting when, should be easy enough to spot as a scam. :okay:

If it doesn’t include my name, in any form, it’s a scam and gets disregarded. If it had my name and isn’t sent to the email address I have reserved only for couriers then it is a scam and it gets disregarded.

Finally, I never click on links within SMS or emails.

Earlier this week I did get something unexpected delivered. The addressee had the same name as my daughter and, on first glance, the address was correct. I asked my daughter if she had misdirected s to me but she hadn’t. On re-reading the address it was intended for someone one street behind where I live.

Harder to be on the ball at the time of year when folk tend to send parcels to other peoples houses, which they may not be expecting.

Not really. People doing that aren't going to give your email address to the delivery company.

And TBH, I don't think I have EVER had a legitimate email of that type.

If you send something tracked then you can be asked for the recipients email address so that the delivery company can tell the recipient when it is coming.
This is what happens when you order from a business and can also happen when you send something as an individual.

Agreed. But not when sending unexpected parcels, which was what I was responding to.

If you don't want the recipient to know it is coming, you aren't going to want them getting tracking emails. And unless you have specifically asked oterwise, it will be the email of the person placing the order which is passed to the delivery company.
