Condor do Rapha, some nice looking shoes on P6 too

http://www.condorcyc.../Page-6-18.html

thanks vikster those quoc shoes like quite stylish, I have never gone clipless before. the stories of people toppling over attatched to their bike has alway put me off. I notice most shoes have velcro tops is there a reason or is it just fashion. I don't like the look of those velcro tabs but if their is some mechanical reason eg improved efficiency I may sacrifice style. The lace up ones do look nicer.

The Velcro straps quickly and efficiently hold the laces out of the way of the chainrings.

Nope, it's too late, you are in our book and, come the revolution, you will be amongst the first against the wall...

... is it a big problem getting laces on chainrings wth clipless? as I have never had it happen with clips and normal shoes.
It is no more or less a problem with clipless, with clips or, indeed, with flats. It's just something that you don't want to happen at all, so many cycling-specific shoes use velcro to avoid the possibility.

I also find that velcro is easier to get the required tension right across the top of the foot. I have 3 straps on my shoes and I tend to have the top one tighter than the bottom one, for no real reason other than it feels right and more comfortable, I guess because I also like my walking boots to be tight around the ankle, for support, whilst still allowing room for the toes to move. Anyway, whatever the reason, it's not possible to easily get that variable tension with laces.

With regards to shirts, I've recently started wearing one made out of coffee grounds from Tenn Outdoors. Whether going for the Sprint or the Octane, both are well thought cycling shirts (with the back pockets and a zipped phone or change pocket). They seem to give many of the benefits of lycra but they have a more relaxed fit and a quite remarkable ability not to smell. After something that someone on here said, I wore one for 5 consecutive days and, even then, it only went into the wash because the thought of wearing it again was a touch gross, it still didn't whiff at all. To completely avoid the cyclist-look, they do a relaxed t shirt from the same material, with a baggier fit and no bum pockets.

For trousers, I use the similar to you, Rohan bags or Craghoppers Kiwis, the latter coming in a variety of shapes and sizes and the option of having zip-off legs, so you can turn them into 3/4 length or shorts.

thanks all for the replies. The title was just a bit of fun. I understand the rationale for lycra and the reasons it's a proper cyclists material just living in the wrong time I guess, as I think edwardian cycle gear is so much more stylish. however some nice modern option that will not show the rolls will be just as good, I shudder to think what I would look like in lycra, perhaps in a year. When I have dropped a bit of weight and got the fitness up although I doubt I will ever be doing long journey's again. I don't think I have done more than a 50 mile trip in the last 10 years. thanks again for your help no offence to the lycra mob it looks fine on you but all that colour on me ugh.
