can I apologise for the use of the word their instead of there.
Nope, it's too late, you are in our book and, come the revolution, you will be amongst the first against the wall...
... is it a big problem getting laces on chainrings wth clipless? as I have never had it happen with clips and normal shoes.
It is no more or less a problem with clipless, with clips or, indeed, with flats. It's just something that you don't want to happen at all, so many cycling-specific shoes use velcro to avoid the possibility.
I also find that velcro is easier to get the required tension right across the top of the foot. I have 3 straps on my shoes and I tend to have the top one tighter than the bottom one, for no real reason other than it feels right and more comfortable, I guess because I also like my walking boots to be tight around the ankle, for support, whilst still allowing room for the toes to move. Anyway, whatever the reason, it's not possible to easily get that variable tension with laces.
With regards to shirts, I've recently started wearing one made out of coffee grounds from Tenn Outdoors. Whether going for the
Sprint or the
Octane, both are well thought cycling shirts (with the back pockets and a zipped phone or change pocket). They seem to give many of the benefits of lycra but they have a more relaxed fit and a quite remarkable ability not to smell. After something that someone on here said, I wore one for 5 consecutive days and, even then, it only went into the wash because the thought of wearing it again was a touch gross, it still didn't whiff at all. To completely avoid the cyclist-look, they do a
relaxed t shirt from the same material, with a baggier fit and no bum pockets.
For trousers, I use the similar to you, Rohan bags or Craghoppers Kiwis, the latter coming in a variety of shapes and sizes and the option of having zip-off legs, so you can turn them into 3/4 length or shorts.
