Looking for a project without spending to much money, not bikes. What projects have people got on the go at the moment, Have recently polished up an old brass blowlamp. Not looking for a long term project, not cars. What you all doing? Not into knitting.

I'm carving a wooden plaque to name my house. I got so far last winter but then stopped for Spring, Summer and Autumn cycling and gardening fun. So I have a ready made project now once the nights draw in and things get tricky to do outdoors.

Tell us more Andy!

There isn't a great deal to tell really. It's a 5 week course at my local library which is teaching folks how to work with pewter. Today was week 3 where we did the sketching and got to play around patinating the metal or applying it to a pebble.

It's free to attend and it's a lot of fun.

One aspect I'm especially enjoying is working in 3 dimensions, which I've never really done before, not in an organised way at least. It's fun learning about a new material and having something to show for it

This was my effort from the first week:

And this was from week 2, with the accompanying spare cut-out bits and sketch:

Bonus points if you recognise where it is.
Looks like Barmouth Bridge to me - only because I've cycled over it.

What about this sort of thing from old bits (not my creations, but I'm workiing on similar).

What space and tools do you have? And what do you actually like doing? I would like to restore old things like hand tools, lawnmowers etc.
But I don't have the space anymore. Or how about a guitar? My mate's brother learnt how to set guitars up, then how to fix them, then ended up building his own

I maintain a motor racing archive as a hobby. There's always new photos to catalogue and newspaper / magazine articles to identify and chase. My current task is collating Spedeworth ministox results from the early 1980s.

Other than that, I write (am working on a novel as well as some Babylon 5 fan fiction), paint (mostly watercolour as it's less faffy with cats), sew (soft furnishings, cat show drapes, decorative applique), and at this time of year, there's always foraging, followed inevitably by jam, jelly and chutney making.

I've also a scratch modelling project that's currently on hold until I can find some suitable materials to work with.
