Bought a new Bianchi in March, have noticed a steady increase in noise when I stand on the pedals to climb, I'd thought the left crank was the culprit. Missus bought that Halfords care plan for Fathers day, so I left in with them, the young lad who looked at it couldn't find anything wrong with it, had the crank off ballbearings out etc.. I reckon it's that area anyway, any ideas as to what it could be? (before I take it to a real bike mechanic).

What sort of noise? Could be the chain rubbing slightly against the front mech when you stand and power - Does it happen when on a particular front ring?

There was a bit of chain rubbing of the derailleur as well, that seems to be sorted ok. Pretty much on the big ring on the front all the time. How to describe a noise - squeaky, under stress. I'd also put a wireless computer on recently, so I thought that may be contributing in someway, but doesn't seem to be. Seems on the left side to me.

Could this be of some help? Link

I have no hair to pull out after trying diagnose a couple of creaks/cricks. Luckily my bike has been silent for a while now.

Stem/handlebars creaks are often overlooked! Try climbing without using your hands

Didn't he say when he stands on the pedals? As in, not sat? That would surely preclude the saddle? My favourites would be;

1. Tighten cleats
2. Check stem
3. check and maybe apply a little lube to dropouts
4. check wheels aren't flexing into brakes when standing

Wherever you think the noise is coming from; it could be anywhere else.

Yes sorry you are right. Your list seems pretty comprehensive :smile:

I have pedals rather than cleats and tried this, it came off a bit too easily for my liking, so I'm hoping that could be the source. Cant get out to try it out as it is lashing....again.

Thanks for the replies

If you've got toe clip pedals then sometimes the plastic of the cage can rub on the crank arm.

After a 35 mile spin, still noisey - the pedal thing was partially repsonsible I think and I dont feel like it's going to collapse under me now. I'd imagine someone with a bit of knowhow would sort it in a few minutes.
