Why are they so expensive? - £19.99 in one LBS. Are Look operating the same sort of marketing as many computer printer makers, i.e. sell the printer for next to nothing, and then charge the earth for cartridges? It is becoming almost more cost effective to buy a new pair of pedals (cleats inc.), rather than buy replacement cleats.

You can get some from Decathlon for around £9. However I found that with both the Decathlon ones and more expensive ones from Wiggle, I was wearing them out in a month or two.

I've recently changed to spd pedals with recessed, metal cleats and will probably never go back to Look.

How often are you wearing a set out? I've done 1,800 miles on mine this year without them looking or feeling mashed. The rubber part is damaged but that doesn't affect the function of the cleat itself. I've used them for TTing, sportives, training, commuting - although the commuting is along quiet roads so I probably don't ever unclip.

The £9ish Decathlon ones are the old style non-grip ones.
My cleats last a fair time if I am careful, (OK - they would last forever if you didn't walk at all wearing them) so much so that I really notice the price hike when I come to buy replacements. In fact I replace them on the shoes one at a time as the left hand one invariably wears down first - that's by the way: I still feel that charging £19.99 for two pieces of plastic is taking the p...
- and, of course, I won't be buying them from that particular LBS, but searching out the best deal online (carriage paid, of course) ;)

I suppose it does make a difference, I think they work out about £14 with club discount at my LBS so I don't think that for a season or two's riding is too bad. This is the first time I've had Looks so I'm not sure how long they'll last.

Didn't take you long to make that decision Martin

yes, look for a good offer, buy pedals and cleats and sell the pedals on ebay.

I have no doubt that if the cleats were cheaper the pedals would cost more - which would be better for us long term.

Look cleats wear out far too quick and cost far too much - for that reason I'd never buy Look pedals again (so they have lost a customer) However, my Look pedals appear to be set to last 20+ years!!! ;-(

Nope was actually thinking of writing an "In Praise of" thread but couldn't be bothered in the end.

Bike is now fully up to scratch: headset freed up; new pedals; new shoes and running GP 4 seasons tyres ( a very nice shop accidentally sent me them instead of Gators).

For the cost of two sets of those cleats you could get a set of shimano cleats with 105 5700 pedals thrown in !!!
How much did the pedals cost in the first place ?

The most recent of my Keo Classics were around £26 3 years ago. I have 2 bikes with the same pedals, and 2 pairs of shoes, so changing them, (or changing to SPDs) would be a costly move for me. Anyway I like the pedals!

They must make cleats in the same factory they make gear hangers. Needed one for my sons bike and it cost more than the mech. Someones having a larf.
