Wow that's pretty good. The glasses look really good too. How do the lenses slot into the frame? It says on their site that you can order additional lenses. I was wondering wether to order a yellow lens as well as the normal lenses for when I go skiing.

Just resurrecting this thread as I am at the point of running out of contact lenses and am thinking of going the prescription route.

Ideally I would like a pair without inserts as I'm thinking they would be a bit of hassle (mist/frame getting in the way of full vision) and certainly ones that I could wear in any weather and at night too-so looking at "transitions" type lens (i.e. a lens that darkens in sunlight).
I've been looking on the optilabs website and their version of "transitions" appears to be "Ultra 2000 (Drivewear®) lenses". Does anyone have these lenses and would care to provide some feedback?

Or, if anyone else has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear.

Hi. Can anyone point me to a good manufacturer / supplier of prescription eyewear? I am near sighted and have astigmatism and I found wearing contact lenses too uncomfortable because of it. So I'm stuck with expensive, prescription glasses. I used to have a set of Oakleys and latterly some Rudy Projects with inserts but these broke and I can't find a UK vendor now. Oakley no longer manufacture my prescription.

I recently went to Optilabs (http://www.optilabs.com/) who I must say pulled out all the stops to try and accommodate my prescription but in the end they couldn't do it. After several goes at getting it right, I gave up and had to return the glasses. A real shame because I loved the frame design so much.

Has anyone here faced a similar problem? It's mainly my left eye that's the problem - I need a -4.50 strength.

Given the problems you've had, perhaps you should go to a 'proper' optician. I've been happy with my optilabs glasses, but at the end of the day they're only making glasses based on your prescription, haven't done a full eye test, and don't check the lenses out with you before you take them away.

After trial and error I settled on Rudy Project's RX System

The insert fits a wide range of their glasses, clipping in securely. The big advantage for me is that you can change the lenses to suit weather and visibilty.

I simply take the insert along to the opticians when I get new glasses and update the lenses

Any reason you're not sticking with the contacts?

A few reasons I'm thinking of getting a pair:

1. Cost vs contact lenses. £60 odd quid for a pack of 90 contact lenses vs a one off pair of glasses for (say) £200. Paid for themselves after 3-4 orders.
2. I wear my normal glasses for cycling to work as these days I only wear contacts at the weekend. I'm not too keen on wearing my glasses for cycling, mainly because they aren't designed for sports use (get dirty, fairly fragile etc). I'd quite like a pair of proper sports glasses.
3. I don't particularly enjoy putting in contacts first thing in the morning, which rules out using them to go to work.
3. Even though I wear sunglasses when out cycling with contact lenses, there is always a small nagging doubt that if I did get something in my eye then I would essentially be blinded until I was able to pull a contact lens out and (once I was able to) put another one in.
4. You might think 2 contradicts 1. somewhat, which it does to some extent (insamuch as my contacts last me for ages as I only use them occasionaly, mainly at weekends/holidays). However, my eye prescription is finally settling down, so a pair of prescription sports glasses should last me for quite a while.

Quiet in her init? :giggle:

I'd stick with the contacts, though I know what you mean about putting them in first thing in a morning, my 4.30am attempts were somewhat
I have the fortnightly disposables, or use 15 times then throw away.
Idea was to use them as and when, but I liked them so much I pretty much wear them everyday.

I have a pair of armour ford 720 wraparounds with rx inserts, bought on ebay for £25 and inserts glazed at cillaryblue.com for £15.
They are brilliant, offer great protection and never fog up even in the wet. They also have mirror lenses which more or less hide the inserts.

I have the Drive wear Lenses (bought primarily for fishing and shooting) on the Dakota frame.

Wouldn't be without them as they allow sight dawn to dusk.

Have even worn them in dark when driving (having come out without normal glasses) and have had no problems, they do cut out all the glare so also good for headaches when you have to carry on.

well, I've just waited over a week for 3 of their frames to be sent to me after being promised to be sent some first thing on monday morning. Nothing came so I rang and asked where they were. Apparently they were waiting for some to be sent back to them. No apology, no nothing (it was clear they hadn't got any records of me or my address). The woman on the phone was extremely rude (apparently they are doing customers a favour because the try out service service is free) so they will not be getting my business:cursing:
