What I don't want is an insert similar to
this as I feel it will not give a wide corrected line of sight and may block my vision in places?
I use inserts like that and it's not a problem. The insert sits very close to your face and doesn't effect your vision. The only problem you will have is when doing shoulder checks and looking behind you. Where you will look will be outside of the insert and as such you can't see anything (depending on your prescription). But this is the same if you wear normal glasses, you have that dead zone to the sides where you can't see properly.
Pros of Inserts
- You can change the lens independently of the insert, so I can use the same frame throughout the year and change the lenses depending on the weather/night etc..
- When your prescription changes you just need to update the insert.
- depending on the frame you get, there are lots of options for lenses.
Cons of inserts
- if you using anything that isn't heavily tinted, then others can see the insert and you look weird.
- most inserts don't have any anti-fogging, so they can fog easily which is a pain (I find that a few meters at 15mph and they are clear again).
