You are 'ahead' of me; I haven't got the gear and I certainly haven't a year's worth of riding/training. I have, however, had a year's worth of over-indulging in food and drink. The CC makes me tremble also, even at this early stage of the year. I know that I'll be very nervous at the start; still, if I manage to get round it'll help to make me fitter and hopefully I'll burn some calories in the process.

If you do the Cheshire Cat, I'm sure that you'll be faster than me; my son's WiiFit tells me that I am overweight and have the fitness of a 64 year old - I'm actually 48, and yes, I am overweight !

hehe I might have the gear but I doubt it if I'd be faster (not that that matters) I even doubt it if I am significantly fitter, I do have the will power and just like you I want something to train towards and will push me. Sorry if I came across as a prat that wasn't my intention, I was just expressing my scariness of this event and how I couldn't envision me doing the CC this year. I'm also of a similar age- 47, a little overweight I can do with losing 5 to 10 pounds and a recovering kidney transplant patient who took up cycling a year ago to get fit only to find the cycling bug hit hard...

And erm guess what I'm pooing my pants cos I've just signed up for the CC 66 miler  so hopefully I will see you there

I could do with losing 20 - 30 pounds; well done for 'having a go' after kidney transplant !!!!:ohmy::ohmy: It gives me inspiration to get fit and stop whingeing !

Look out for the fat bas***d in the CycleChat gear on a rather old and shabby steel framed bike.

Pubrunner I've just re-read this thread and perhaps I can offer a few suggestions regarding clothing.

Shorts- If you are wearing 'just' shorts (shorts that stop above the knee) make sure they are padded, if not you can get padded undershorts. If the weather is a bit nippy perhaps you can buy a pair of leg warmers that can be stuffed in your rear pocket if you get too warm with them on...

Jersey- The same again, if short sleeved and its nippy you may appreciate some arm warmers.

Here's a link to a page Worth's of arm/leg warmers:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/c/Cycle/7/Arm~Leg_Warmers/

Do shop around though.

I am envisioning wearing a long/short sleeved underlayer under a semi-windpoof jacket. A cheapish jacket is the Altura Airstreem or the Pearl Izumi Zephrr Jacket for example. Probably if the weather is still cool then it will be bib longs for me with good gloves and maybe even an underhat under my helmet. Again it depends entirely on the weather on the day as to what I will wear...
