I paid £6 each for a scart cable and aerial lead at Currys yesterday.

This morning I was browsing through Poundland and they had them at a pound each!

And your point is?

I thougt I'd been ripped-off. However, according to another forum the cheaper scart cables don't have all the pins attached.

I'm not exactly sure what that means but the effect is that the cables don't work as well. It seems it was worth spending another fiver on the scart cable.

Some people claim the aerial leads are just as good but the previous poster seems to have had problems with them.

I was advised a few years ago to buy flat ribbon scart leads, (can't remember why tbh). I went to Currys/Comet/A.N.Other generic high street retailer, and at the time they were about £25 each, I nearly fell over

Needless to say I left them there and stuck with my standard scart leads.

All pins connected iirc... allows for video and audio signal to feed in both directions. Also enables RGB format (which would give you a 'cleaner' picture) and finally a control pin which would automatically change your tv when you switch on the dvd or digi-box

I would imagine the ribbon based leads were sold on the basis of less interference, which if you had a decent 'normal' cable with good screening, you would get just as good performance.

Scart leads used to disappear quite frequently round my house. We never had quite enough to connect everything at the same time so we were always borrowing the leads from whatever wasn't in use and sometimes they'd go walkabout. Eventually I bought a few from the poundshop. Only had a problem with one of them, it wouldn't fit at all. The metal bit that slots into the tv was slightly bent. It didn't take a minute to bend it back into shape and it's worked well enough ever since. Been a good few years now and I can't tell the cheap ones from the pricey ones. I can only tell that one apart from the others by unplugging it and looking at it.
