Post Christmas Cycle-shop sales…..

Good morning,

I have been looking for a new set of commute bike wheels and I have seen some good prices on Fulcrum 900, got a set for the Raleigh and some good prices on Shimano RS100s.

But neither of these fit my definition of commute wheels so I ended up buying a pair of Tiagra/Mavic Open Elite from SJS not in any sale (https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/wheelsw...ims-with-shimano-tiagra-hubs-in-silver/).

Sadly the Superstar offers mentioned elsewhere didn't seem to include Q/R rim brake road wheels.

As Cyclops implied, there is a lot on offer, but a lot less that I actually want and as long as retailers don't get sucked in to offering discounts customer are happy to buy at sustainable prices.

Sadly not at all surprised by the Planet X Kaffenback pricing, instead of learning from Sports Direct they seem to be doing the opposite and using Brands (https://www.planetx.co.uk/our-brands) and sales to disguise what the selling price should be.

Although Sports Direct sell big brands, these brands have often been reluctant to supply anything other than entry level products as they didn't want to see them discounted and it is hard to be profitable on bargain basement lines. So Sports Direct bought brands but in general were seen as taking these brands downmarket so lost what it was they bought.

I do buy from Sports Direct as I find their stuff to be decent at the price but like everyone else look at the 75% off price as being the normal and what it is worth price and by and large their prices are consistent. Everything is always on offer at the "discounted" price.

Bye

Ian

Just to prove the pointless of the whole Planet X. On Boxing Day it was £999 with 20% off and now on the Jan sale is £799. In other words always £799.

No, That bike was actually £599 in December.

Are not the essential road heavy duty wheels rim brakes?

Better check what I have brought!!

Morning,

Thanks @DCLane.

It wasn't rim/disc but Q/R or T/A that concerned me.

My thinking was the site says The Road2 range of hubs are the perfect balance of strength, weight and performance for road riding.......... oversize 15mm thru axles for rigidity.

And no option on the checkout or buy pages to specify Q/R or Thru Axle meant T/A only.

Maybe I should have checked?

T/A aren't normal for rim brake road wheels.

Are the pave the same wheels as the Alex then? I thought they would be lighter or is it just the hubs that are lighter?
