Hiya. Just begun to strip down MTB, began to check HT bb and idrive components , they are ok , but ....
The frame is a dual suss , the rear drop out section has a lot of lateral movement at the pivot , but I have another frame that is ok , however there is some difference in the length of the headset tube ,the original is 20mm longer , will this prove to be problematic ?

Assuming you are talking about an Ahead steerer rather than an old threaded one, the shorter head tube will mean that more of the steerer tube shows. You can either use spacers to take up this extra length or cut the steerer down to size. Spacers may look a bit ugly if you have a large number of them but it is easier than cutting the steerer and means the steerer length is preserved should you need to swap the fork out in future. You can use spacers above the stem as well as below if you don't want the handlebars as high as they can go.

It is not the threaded type , the forks are Marcozzi Bombers 1997
Version , I think that cutting them would be a mistake , if I get the pressed pivot sorted on original frame I may go back to it , I had that frame powder coated , it looked qute well , I had spacers in mind , Prob go 10mm either end ,
Cheers , Thanks for input !

When you say 10mm at either end - all the spacers need to be at the top of the steerer above the head tube. Your choice is whether to stack all the required spacers below the stem or some below and some above the stem.
