I have been adding sunflower and pumpkin seeds, chillis, raisins, banana and strawberries to my porridge recently, but quinoa - that's another interesting addition!

I add dried mixed fruit, chopped mixed nuts and brown sugar to mine. I've not come across Quinoa before.

I add whatever dried fruit I happen to have in stock. Currently - and currantly - I've got cranberries, almonds, apricots and dessicated coconut. And muscovado always.... It's more an indulgence than a breakfast.

We go for the old soaking and boiling, preferably slow cooking as prep for legumes and things like quinoa so don't have this sort of thing very often

Presumably they are using Quinoa Flakes for the porridge rather than the usual wholegrain? I once bought a bag of the flakes from a health food store (darned expensive) and experimented with adding them to flapjacks. The conclusion was that flapjacks are better tasting without any quinoa addition. I think the dregs of the bag are still sitting in a corner of the cupboard well past their consume by date...

I often mix it in with rice in a 80/20% rice/quinoa split by adding it to the rice with 15min cooking time left. I don't much like it on it's own.
I haven't tried it for a while because I used to get it from a stall at Hebden Bridge market, and the stallholder retired a few years ago. I liked it with veggie curry or chilli.

Porridge? Chillis?

Freak!
Don't knock what you haven't tried! ***

(I'm assuming that you are disturbed by porridge AND chillis, not porridge OR chillis!)

*** Actually, I take that comment back - I have never indulged in lopping off my goolies with a blunt, rusty knife, but I feel totally confident in my condemnation of it as a pastime!
