Blimey. In roughly the same position. Last January I was just over 23st, and now I'm 20st. When I went bike shopping, I noticed that some hybrids quoted 120kg as max weight, and bought the Trek because it quoted 136kg. I just assumed those spindly little road bikes would have a much lower weight limit!

You's be surprised at what bikes can put up with. To be fair, I'd not say my road bikes are spindly. But they do use quality steel tubing in their frames e.g. 531, 525 and 831 and thirty six spoked wheels. I've never had very light weight road bikes in my sights and I have embarrassed more than a few weekend warriors on the flat when I've swept by them mounted their carbon framed toys on my Dave Yates Randonnier sporting a pannier and lots of surplus blubber. Mind you, as soon as I encounter a significant climb....

Kestevan- the weather jinx was broken (I hope) with the Rivi 100!!! I did text you a few weeks ago to ask about Andrea. I hope her recovery is on track???

Billy- my comment does sound a bit harsh but I am just a bit jaded with sportives. I think a lot of sportives have no atmosphere at all. Personally I find audaxes and events that are run by clubs are the best. I am a tight sod as well and don't like paying some of the daft entry fees.

Thanks for the feedback Al, appreciated. Hoping to do a few more of your events next summer too.
