I am just about to buy a Polar CS500+ cycle computer but have been told the batteries in both the sensors mentioned are not changeable. Do the sensors carry a manufactured date as i don't want to buy a unit with sensors that are already out of date.

I can't comment on a manufacturers date but suspect that the batteries have a use-by date years ahead.

I've avoided Polar sealed units and until now have used Cardiosport HRMs with battery hatches. Recently though I've bought a Polar unit with a sealed chest strap and am thinking of getting a cadence sensor.

The batteries appear to be replaceable if you're confident enough to attempt some DIY surgery. There are a few guides on YouTube. This is for the CS500 cadence sensor.
