BMW have cheated a bit by only dropping half way down. You still have quite a big step up. I presume this maintains some sideways strength but lacks practicality. And it’s a two seater.
I wasn’t suggesting it was new. The original video looks like a 1980s.

Almost ashamed to admit it, but I've seen several of these here in SoCal. The driver is normally about 5' tall and the passenger seat is always empty.

That is perfectly reasonable and practical, where it is intended to be used. Totally impractical for British roads, but that isn't where it is designed to be used.
