I know it's in jest, but I've seen a lot of commentary about the chance of him getting injured. But how often has he fell off with consequence? Strade this year (he won the race but probably impacted his performance in MSR), Liege 2023. Any other examples?

I don't think you're much more likely to crash in P-R than any other race.
Although I would expect him to get UAE to ride early to thin the field and minimise the risk

I wonder if there has been a study into P-R crashes?
My recollection there are loads more offs in that race than any other. Most non-serious, but many serious.

I imagine this is the case the surface is so dissimilar to a usual race and then there’s rain

Yes. No citation, sorry, but I'm pretty sure of this one. There are also quite a few horror stories of facial injuries from secteurs like Arenberg - something which tends not to happen on pure tarmac races (c.f. Pog's rather dramatic slide across Italian tarmac a few weeks back).
Flanders is a much less hazardous course - almost all the cobbles/pavé are uphill!
[I fell off twice riding the P-R course, would have been a lot more if it hadn't quickly dried out in the sun. Found a nice soft ditch to land in both times, and I wasn't riding at pro-race speed.]

I'm gobsmacked. I thought his learn from MSR was that he can't just ride away from the current incarnation of MVdP like he can with others, and if he wants to, his best chance is on a hill.

hard to see pog dropping MvdP at PR . If he gets a gap and a bit of luck he may stay away ... RVV is the opposite he has the advantage .

I'm not particularly sure what the motive for Pogacar is in turning up to PR this year. We know he's a pure racer and he'll look to try his hand at every race, which is fair enough I guess, but is that it? What I can't fathom is that both he and his team aren't stupid, they know they couldn't distance MVDP at MSR and in theory that should be even harder in Roubaix. Not to mention Ganna is in good form and with Van Aert to return as well. One thing is for sure, it won't be boring!

I don't think he'll be riding it this year expecting to win (subject to all the usual Pog caveats)
